Do you think you have what it takes to be a FirstEnergy All-American Soap Box Derby volunteer? Do you love helping children in your local community and from around the world? Do you want to be part of a 78 year old tradition? Then sign up today to be a Race Week volunteer and be part of the FirstEnergy All-American Soap Box Derby team!

What's in it for you?

Not only do our volunteers get the thanks and appreciation of all our FirstEnergy All-American Soap Box Derby Champs, but each volunteer will receive lunch and a free t-shirt and will be invited to a Volunteer Appreciation Day in August. Not to mention getting to see all the smiling faces of over 450 dedicated racers!

Volunteer training

Never been a FirstEnergy All-American Soap Box Derby volunteer? No problem! Volunteer orientation for new and returning volunteers will be held on July 16 at 5pm, July 16 at 6pm, July 18 at 9am, and July 18 at 10am at Derby Downs. You only need to attend one of the meetings. Orientation will be held at the International Soap Box Derby Headquarters Building at 789 Derby Downs Dr. Akron, OH 44306. During this training session volunteers will pick up their t-shirts and ID badges, and will learn about the responsibilities and jobs that will be performed during Race Week Festivities.

Volunteer Appreciation Day at Derby Downs

After a week of seeing excited faces fly down the track at the World Championship Race, our volunteers deserve to feel the “thrill of the hill” for themselves. On Thursday, August 27  from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m., we invite all our volunteers to come back to the track for a day of appreciation. Not only will our volunteers get to have their turn racing one another down the track, but we will also have a cookout!
